myLot Discussions| Sheet Music Song Books with our without Cds | | I have a few sheet musics and a few Song books, most of the latter with Cds, except for one that I do not have a Cd with. I find the Cds good because then I can see what the accompaniment is since I can only get to practice a couple of weeks before the concert with the pianist. I do have a spinet organ but I know that most singers usually have a piano in their house except my husband does not want one. So I plan to buy a piano keyboard that is not the full 88 keys.
So I was wondering whether you prefer to just get the song books and sheets without the Cds or whether you want to go all wild and buy the song books with the Cds included even though you are on a budget.
I mean in this economy, is it worth it or not buying the song books with the Cds. Oh and you all who are not singers can answer if they would or not had you had the talent. | |

| | Oops I brought some of her husband's papers home with me by mistake | | On Wednesday night, I went to my friend's house, the one who used to take professional singing lessons. She has a piano and she offered to help me practice my piece for the Spring concert, and also to look at the song books I had so we can try a few out of them. Well we did not start until eight thirty pm as her husband works the midnight shift and he needs his sleep.
So I did get about half and hour of practice and then I lent her one of my songbooks so she can copy some of the pieces (her one is rather torn up - years of using it.) then I packed up the rest of my books into my carrying bag and went home.
Well i left them in the bag and just took out the sheet music I was going to use for the concert. Then yesterday, that is Thursday, I checked and found that I had also picked up the manuscript for their Tv, plus the ADT files and labels by mistake. So in the afternoon, I told my husband I was going to return them, so off I went. Then when I got home, I discovered an envelope and some stickers of theirs in the bottom of the back. | | I mean I am not going to sing in a vacuum | | I was looking through my song books and they all have copyright notices on them. Now I have no idea how much one would have to pay to perform the song in public, i.e. at a concert hall or at your annual or semi annual Church festival so you can distribute Cds at cost, or put one of the songs on your site on the internet, but when one does love to sing, does not one want someone else to hear it, and not just the ones in your own community?
Yet because of that Mickey Mouse character, all music made after 1923 has to be copyrighted and that goes past the seventy years after the composer or lyrist kicks the bucket. Now I will more likely live to be in my 90s, but come on people, I have yet to see anyone compose a song when they were a year old.
So does anyone think that perhaps the copyright year should be upgraded maybe to 1940? Then that would make it easier for us singers.

Whats your favorite books to read? If you like reading. Heart song books are christian love story navels. I like reading other books on Kings,queens and there castles. Has any one ever seen Neuschwanstein castle that is in Germany? King Ludwig lived in that castle and was remodeling it. That place is stunning. The paintings on the walls and the details in the castle are beautiful. If anyone likes castles you should check it out. | |

| | Reading Sheet Music on the Harmonica | | Most people who play the harmonica read tabs, not sheet music. There are many forms of tablature for the harmonica, but it's all fairly easy to read.Since I was 8 years old, I've been in the tab reading crowd when it comes to playing the harmonica. I learned to read sheet music, but never applied it to the harmonica before because tabs were just so easy. I kept buying more and more song books already written in tab for the harmonica. Then I ran out of books to even buy pretty much. So I learned how to do the tabs myself. But it was a time consuming project.Now I'm learning the harmonica again after not really playing it for probably 2 years. So I've decided that I'll start with the chromatic and learn sheet music. So far, it's a lot of fun and just tonight I could finally play some actual songs without any tabs.It's very liberating to finally be breaking the shackles of tablature! Yay! I can finally read some notes!So if you're thinking about learning standard notation for harmonica rather than tablature, I'd highly recommend it. Then you'll be able to play just about anything.
