I was given the front row ticket to take photos for an avid fan. I got some great shots of one of the last of the great rock idols. a few more photos can be seen in my Ricky Nelson photos in my profile.
| | You're Sixteen | | If you're as old as I am, lol[em]lol[/em]you probably remember a song that was popular in the early '60s called "You're Sixteen". The words, to be exact, were "You're sixteen, you're beautiful, and you're mine". This song was also featured in the movie "American Graffitti", if you saw it. Anyway, the song was sung by a singer named "Johnny Burnette", who along with his brother, "Dorsey Burnette", and friend "Paul Burlison" formed "The Rock'n'Roll Trio" in the early '50s. Johnny sang and played guitar, Dorsey played the bass, and Paul played lead guitar. He wasn't a very well known singer but he had a hit with the song "Dreamin'" in 1960. I bought this record not long afterwards. This is how I first heard of him. I was just 8 years old at the time and I never had seen a picture of Johnny. After hearing him sing this song, I was picturing a really good looking guy! I know you can't always go by the way a person sounds as to how they look, but when I bought the song "You're Sixteen" a few years later, the record had his picture with it and I wasn't wrong! He was cute! He also had a hit with the songs "Little Boy Sad", "Big, Big World", and "God, Country, & My Baby". He also wrote... | |
| | Which type of music do you prefer to listen to, Vocal or instrumental? | | I have always been fond of instrumental music and listen very often to orchestrated music like those of James Last, Henry Mancini, Hugo Montenegro, Billy Vaughn and his orchestra, The Shadows, The Ventures etc. I prefer music which is easy on the ears known as Easy listening, or afternoon music, music that makes you relax. I also like meditation music because it removes stress and gives peace to the soul. I belong to the old school of music,ie music of the 50`s and 60`s. this also includes vocalists like Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Dean Martin, Cliff Richards, Pat Boone,Ricky Nelson, Jim Reeves and many others.Tell me about your choice? | |
| | Which was the very first Beatles song that you ever heard? | | The year was 1962 and i was studying in the First Year of a Science college in Mumbai, India.I was very fond of Western pop music which at that time had soulful melodies of singers like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Cliff Richards, Ricky Nelson, Jim Reeves, Elvis Presley etc. In those days there was no TV so we would listen to music on the old big valve radios and transistor radios.
One evening i had tuned to BBC World Service and was listening to music. Suddenly the announcer said that he would be playing a song by a group of talented young men who had started taking Britain by storm. The record started playing and i was mesmerised by the song as it was of a totally differnt genre, a totally different sound and a totaly different type of music, one that i had never heard before in my life. That song happened to be " I wanna hold your hand ". The announcer had not mentioned the name of the band so when the song ended i strained to hear the announcers voice as there was a lot of disturbance in the air waves. I heard something that sounded like Beetles.
The next day when i went to college i excitedly told my friends about this group and told them to tune to BBC music program. A couple...

| | Have you ever met a Celebrity? | | Have you ever met someone famous? If so who were they?
I had the pleasure of partying with the CHarlie Daniels band. Now mind you at the time, I had no idea who this band was. Not until I met my current husband, and he starts playing their awesome music. What a shock, when I found out, that the one offering me free back stage passes was really Charlie Daniels!
I was working at a restaurant, and one of my tables were harmonizing. I couldn't figure out for the life of me who this group was. It was the Manhattan Transfer. I was able to get autographs, and a nice tip to boot.
My husband was working for a security firm one year, and he had to do private duty for two young recording guys. He called me and asked me if I would like to go to a closed door autograph session for the "Nelson Twins". These were Ricky Nelson's boys. What awesome boys they were. Polite, considerate, one looks like Ricky the other more like his mom. THat was a special night.
How about you? Care to share a famous person with us?
| | My Big Rant About Why Elvis Is The King | | As far as I'm concerned Elvis is the King of Rock N Roll. I know several people might disagree with this opinion but there are several reasons why I feel the way I do. Throughout Elvis' career he has recorded a wide variety of music from rock n' roll to gospel. I will admit though mostly all were covers of other people's songs and "Love Me Tender" was the only song of his that he actually wrote lyrics for. Yet the medley for that song is based off of "Aura Lee." Elvis who was this poor kid from Mississippi brought with him all of the blues and gospel he had been hearing his whole childhood. He took that music and molded it into his own feel and rhythm. He was really the first person that was able to take black music of the south and make it widely heard and accepted by white people. For the first time ever people of all ages and races felt comfortable listening to the same music. It wasn't thought of as something wrong if you were found listening to the great music recorded by black artists. Elvis was able to take their songs and make them into hit records. From what I've read Elvis has always given credit to the artists before him and the ones who inspired him. It just seems a... | |
